Alternative web browsers

Dillo

Cookies are disabled by default, JavaScript is not supported. HTML 4 and CSS 2 have better support than HTML 5 and CSS 3 which are implemented only partially.

Wikipedia articles are readable, but strangely the background is beige. The buttons and inputs lack labels and are scattered around randomly. The layout is only partially preserved.

NetSurf

This browser includes a JS engine, however HTML 5 and CSS 3 are still work in progress.

The background is accurate and overall layout closer to the original. Some elements, like diagrams are not broken anymore. Unfortunately the inputs are still broken. Memory usage, for the exact same page, is at least twice as much as in Dillo's case.

SeaMonkey

JavaScript and cookies are of course supported, but can be disabled. It's also possible to install uBlock Origin extension.

In regard to Wikipedia, this time the difference between the reference render (Firefox) and the alternative are miniscule - some margins are missing, sometimes text is not bold, but all the features are present and layout is the same. Memory usage is at least three times as of NetSurf.

Newer, more JS heavy websites might have problems though - for example you won't be able to read about mail client Thunderbird because the layout is completely broken.

Pale Moon & Basilisk

I assume the results will be exactly the same since they both use Goanna engine. Wikipedia does look better here - exactly the same as in Firefox. Thunderbird's website is still broken but at least more elements are placed correctly (e.g. centered). Memory usage is smaller than SeaMonkey (more or less-half of it). Basilisk's default look is very minimal, which I greatly appreciate.

Web (by GNOME; formerly known as Epiphany)

Both Wikipedia and Thunderbird websites are rendered perfectly thanks to WebKit engine, however the UI of the browser itself is very glitchy, at least on Fedora with LXQt. It looks like shadows are not applied to the menus, dropdowns etc. and the interface is shown in light mode - very annoying.
